Driver Training

The safe transport of chemicals is one of the key elements of the Responsible Care® initiative and the transportation industry plays a vital role in this.

This driver training package is jointly prepared by ISOPA and the diisocyanates transportation companies, to be used as a tool to ensure, when properly implemented, the safe loading, transportation and unloading of Isocyanates. The package is designed to increase the level of safety awareness of the drivers and those active in the logistics supply chain. (As an example see this press statement from one of the carriers).

This programme is in line with the chemical industry's programme of Responsible Care® .

The ISOPA driver training package was first developed in 2000 and over 3000 drivers have been trained since then. The revision of this package is based on the experiences from trainers, hauliers and ISOPA members using the first training package.

The content of this training package is focused on the information the drivers need in their day-to-day work to transport bulk diisocyanates including discharge methods. Excluded from this revision is information on legislation; Responsible Care® is briefly referred to.

This package should be used by dedicated trainers who have undergone a training session organized by ISOPA or one of Member Companies. For more information contact us or one of our Member Companies.

The final step in the programme is the receipt of the attendance list by ISOPA. This will trigger the preparation and dispatch of signed Driver Training cards for drivers who have successfully completed the programme. These are valid for 3 years.

The package contains the required attendance list (see 'Procedure' below), a slideshow of 49 slides, speaker's notes for the trainers and a questionaire file.

The questionnaire is a multiple choice test. There are 48 questions, of which the trainer can select 20 relevant questions dependent on the haulier, mode of transport, and type of diisocyanate. Mark the selected questions in column A and use the counter in cell A3 to ensure you have 20 questions. Use the filter button in cell A3 to retrieve the final questionnaire.

The questionnaire is in columns B-I (print pages 1-2). Trainers should contact ISOPA to obtain the link of the answers.

Column O contains a reference to where in the slide package the specific question is dealt with.

Procedure to obtain Driver Training Cards:

[1] For each session: make sure all attendants are listed on the attendance list, print the list
and obtain their signatures; the trainer should also sign the list.

[2] After the test, leave those who passed on the list, remove the others and add the score.

[3] ISOPA to receive the signed attendance list + one copy of the used questionnaire by mail/scan (main@isopa.org) or fax (+32 2 676 74 79).

[4] Enter data of drivers who passed the test into the ISOPA database for which you should have obtained access rights, if not please contact ISOPA .

[5] ISOPA will produce and send the Driver Training cards.
